Pure avocado oil, often also misnamed as essential avocado oil, is extracted from the first press of the fruit. This is known as virgin avocado oil and is considered to be extremely healthy. However, this is also extremely expensive. Fortunately, the oil does not go rancid very quickly and can be stored for long periods of time. Research has shown that avocado oil stored for over 12 years at low temperatures turned only slightly rancid. Therefore if you refrigerate the oil, there is a high likelihood that you may be able to store the oil for a long time.

Cold pressed avocado oil finds its uses in many hair care and cosmetic products. Since the oil has a deep moisturizing quality to it, it is considered an excellent ingredient to organic and herbal cosmetic preparations. It is often a primary ingredient in facial creams, moisturizing lotions, soaps and hand lotions. Unrefined avocado oil may also be used for making sunscreens and sun blocks as they can filter out the UV or the tanning rays of the sun.
Almost 30% of the avocado crop in the world is processed for its oil. Almost two thirds of this oil is utilized in soaps and a little less than one third is used for cosmetics. The rest, which is a very small amount, is used for cooking and consumption. The pulp residue of the fruit that remains after the oil gets extracted is usually used as stock feed.
Nutritional Benefits of Avocado Oil
The nutritional benefits of the oil are many. The avocado fruit has a lot of oil in it and the digestibility coefficient of the oil is almost 93.7%. The oil contains palmitic, stearic, oleic and linoleic amino acids. It also has a high lipid content, which may range from 5% to 25%. Additionally, the oil also has a high content of unsaturated fatty acid, which can help reduce total serum cholesterol and phospholipid values in the blood. Studies have shown that within a week of consuming avocado oil regularly, the cholesterol and phospholipid values can begin to decrease. In case these values do not decrease, it has been seen that they do not increase either.
Additionally, since the oil improves digestibility, cooking with it can also help with your weight loss plans.
