Melissa Oil: This particular oil is extracted from Melissa officinalis, which belongs to the Labiatae family. It is also known as bee balm, lemon balm and balm. This oil is used in aromatherapy to bring calmness, and control palpitations.
It is also used to treat menstrual problems, fight cold sores and fungal infections.
Properties and origin: Watery in viscosity, the lemon balm oil has a lemony, tangy citrus smell and a sweet, fresh aroma. It is yellow in color.

This plant is a native of the Mediterranean region and grows up to the height of 60 cm or two feet. It grows well in soil that is rich in iron and the plant has small pink-white flowers and hairy leaves. Since the flowers are a favorite with bees, the plant is called Melissa, which in Greek means 'honeybee'. The plant is also called lemon balm because 'Bal-Smin' in Hebrew means the chief of oils.
