Reiki is a Japanese holistic healing method that channels the energy from the reiki professional to the recipient. The word ‘reiki’ is composed of two words ‘rei’ and ‘ki’.
‘Rei’ denotes the ‘wisdom of god’ and ‘ki’ signifies ‘life force’ (energy). The prime focus of reiki techniques is stress relief and healing.
Reiki is based on the idea that life force energy is the essence of human life. The depletion of life force energy in the human body causes sickness, stress and other related disorders. In the United States, reiki is a branch of alternative and complimentary medicine.
Reiki massage therapy builds on traditional Japanese touch therapy. Reiki emphasizes complete healing on physical, spiritual and emotional levels. The reiki massage is given by a qualified reiki practitioner. The massage removes the blockages disturbing the energy flow in the receiver’s body. The healing starts at the cellular level, and the energy channelized is abundant.
There are three stages in reiki. A first degree qualified reiki practitioner can perform the technique on himself and on others. Reiki can be used on one’s own self to heal aches and disorders by locating the hands on the specific areas. There are twelve hand positions specified in reiki. These are as follows:
The massage is performed fully clothed, sitting or lying on a mat.
The procedure starts with the practitioner placing his/her hands over the receiver’s body. In some cases, a mild or a light contact with the receiver’s body is initiated.
The reiki practitioner then channels the focus on specific areas or spots over the recipient’s head, chest, back and abdomen, for a few minutes. The procedure continues till the energy flow characterized by the tingling or heat sensations, experienced by the practitioner during the session, has stopped or slowed.
If you want to learn how to use reiki, you will need to learn from a guru or therapist. Keep in mind that reiki cannot be learned. The ability to transfer energy from the supreme source is merely transferred to a student.
The feelings during the reiki treatment are often different for every individual. The reiki massage is generally a relaxing and soothing experience. The receiver typically drifts into composed levels of dreams, warmth, peace, security, and bliss. The receiver will gradually sense a greater positive energy in the body, and the signs of distress and anxiety will disappear.
While reiki has no adverse reaction on the body, the therapy is not a substitute for modern medical treatment. Proper reiki training under a qualified reiki master is essential before applying the therapy on oneself or on others.
