Being pregnant poses many problems when using anti-worm treatments whether they are natural or modern medicines. One of the most popular treatments for worm infections that are a broad spectrum for intestinal worms is Albendazole. Unfortunately, this is also toxic for a growing fetus. Your best chance for treating intestinal worms is to wait until your pregnancy comes to term and then start your de-worming treatment. In the meantime, there are some treatments that are worth trying out, which are just a mild dietary enhancement or addition. This may not completely cure you but would keep the condition under check.

Intestinal Worms Treatment - Castor Oil

There are a few types of intestinal worms and treating them requires knowing which worm has infected you. Some of the common afflictions that occur are Enterobiasis caused by the pinworm, Ascariasis caused by the Ascaris worm, Anchylostomiasis by the hookworm, Trichuriasis by the parasitic whipworm, to name a few. In all of these worm infestations, the worms can disrupt normal intestinal function, cause anemia, and deplete your nourishment levels. The most common drugs that are used include Praziquantel, Oxamniquine, Castor oil, mebendazole, piperazine, Pyrantel pamoate, Albendazole, Hexylresorcinol, and Thiabendazole. Most of these drugs should not be had during pregnancy but some of these drugs like Hexylresorcinol, Thiabendazole, and Pipeazine have not had their effects on pregnancy studied very well. This means that it is not worth taking the risk of trying it out either. Of the items in the list, Castor oil would appear to be the safest natural alternative unfortunately; this has some side effects in causing labor pains.

Home Remedies

There are some home remedies that are worth trying out but you need to check with your doctor on whether you can try these out during pregnancy. Pepper, chili, throat lozenges with Hexyresorcinol, garlic and neem oil have properties that can reduce the extent of worm infections. Curiously eating wasabi often is also useful and is quite toxic to some types of worms. Similary, hot mustard and other pungent food can also be ingested. None of these has any effect on the fetus; these are foods that are ingested daily in all parts of the world. It is also important during this time that you keep the populations of worms in the gut low by have mild laxatives like aloe vera juice. Laxatives cause bowel movements and this will discharge any overpopulations of worms in you.
