My bf and I are new to yoga and would love to find a website that has pictures and explanations of poses for us to do at home. Would someone be able to help suggest a site or two? I would appriciate any help given.
Thank-You.
Yoga is an ancient practice that is still practiced today because of it health benefits. Yoga is composed of several asanas or postures that focus on different areas of the body. Proper breathing is also essential during all yoga postures. This focus on breathing helps to reduce stress, promotes alertness, strengthens the respiratory system and clears the mind. It is recommended that you consult a doctor before practicing yoga, especially if you have any health problems. It is also advisable to learn yoga from a qualified yoga teacher. You may start off with beginners’ yoga and then progress to more advanced yoga. Here are a few beginners’ yoga postures.
The first pose that comes to mind when considering basic beginner’s yoga positions is the Balasana (Child Pose), which is an easy resting pose. To begin, kneel on the floor with your feet together and sit on your heels. Separate your knees to align with your hips and while exhaling, bend and touch your head to the floor. Your upper body should be resting between your thighs. Keep your hands at your sides, besides the feet with the palms facing up. Hold the posture for a few seconds and then resume original position. This posture stretches the thighs and hips and also helps to reduce fatigue. One of the most popular beginners yoga poses is Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose). To perform this pose, lie on your stomach with your legs outstretched. Touch your forehead to the floor and bend your hand at the elbows. Place your hands at the side of your chest with the palms touching the floor. Then straighten your arms and lift your chest of the floor. Inhale as you push your torso back. Hold for as long as you are comfortable and then exhale and resume original position. This posture helps to strengthen the muscles of the back and also offers relief from asthma.
A basic standing for any beginner’s yoga session is Tadasana (Mountain Pose). Stand with your legs together and hands at the side. Look straight ahead and then raise your hands and join your palms together at chest level. Next raise your arms above your head, inhale and rise on your toes. Stretch your body as much as you can. Then as you exhale, resume your original position. A good way to end your yoga practice is by performing Savasana (Corpse Pose). You simply need to lie down on your back with your hands at the sides. Close your eyes and relax your entire body. Breathe normally and focus on relieving the tension from every part of the body. Do this till you are completely rested. This is an excellent way of relaxing the muscles after exercise.
