Doing yoga after a meal can be tricky and every person reacts to the asanas or the poses differently. The thumb rule is that you can do yoga about two hours after consuming a meal, any meal. This time frame may vary depending on what you eat. A longer gap is recommended if you have consumed a non-vegetarian meal or had meat. In such cases, three hours or longer are recommended after lunch for yoga.
It would help if you kept your lunch light. Eating salads and vegetables for lunch is preferable, especially if you regularly prefer practicing yoga in the afternoon. Eating a small meal about two hours before you practice your daily yoga regimen is a good idea.
Most yoga practitioners prefer and recommend early morning yoga as the best option. If you are not able to dedicate the morning to the practice of yoga, you could divide up your practice of yoga to do some in the morning and some in the evening or afternoon.
Early morning yoga is encouraged because usually the stomach has been empty for about six to eight hours. You can have some tea before you start with morning yoga. Another important point to remember is that you should not be too tired when you start the practice of yoga.
