Suryanamaskar or sun salutation is a combination of 12 yoga asanas. This form of yoga requires the whole body to stretch and is not recommended for post operative myomectomy and cystotomy patients for at least 7 to 8 weeks after the surgery has been done. And even then, it is best to consult your doctor before starting with any exercise.
Myomectomy and cystotomy are procedures involving incisions and sutures, and are known to have long recovery periods. Depending on the kind of surgery, it can take from two to seven weeks to recover. Myomectomy can be of three kinds and each kind has a different recovery period and it is recommended that physical activity be kept to the minimal during this time. Likewise, cystotomy is also known to take around 4 to 6 weeks to recover.
After such procedures, your body needs time to heal; rushing the curative period might lead to complications, ruptured incisions and sometimes also blood loss. You will also probably be on pain medications during the recovery period, this could increase your risk of injury as these drugs block pain receptors – as a result, if you do happen to get injured, you might not even notice it immediately. Always follow your doctor’s instructions on any form of exercise after these surgeries.
