What is Remedial Massage?

Remedial massage a form of deep tissue massage helps in treating sprains, strains, fractured bones, bruising, or any injury wherein the skin is intact. Remedial massage heals muscles and tendons that are damaged, impaired, knotted, or immobile.

This is a holistic approach to health and it begins with assessment of the client’s health, both physical and emotional. Remedial massage is done in concurrence with assessment and needs. It is considered effective for lifestyle problems such as back pain and repetitive strain injuries. It is also said to help athletes and sportspersons considerably.

Back Pain and Remedial Massage

Remedial massage not only provides relief to back pain but also works on the whole body. In other words, the treatment targeted toward back pain has an indirect effect on the entire body, as all the muscles are relaxed. Before you receive a remedial massage, the therapist will first diagnose the cause of your back pain so as to treat not only the symptoms of pain but also the cause itself.

The massage therapist uses kneading, stroking, and percussive movements to relax the muscles, boost the circulatory and nervous systems, and improve overall body mechanisms. The movements can be vigorous or gentle, light or deep, and include other specialized techniques that will repair damage and aid in supporting and speeding the body’s own healing mechanisms.

The therapist may use oil as lubricating medium like in deep tissue massage, so that the muscles and joints that are affected be reached and treated. The therapist may also use passive joint stretching to realign the body.

The benefits of remedial massage for back pain include stimulation of blood flow and removal of toxins from the muscles. It also soothes the peripheral nervous system that aids to ease pain and discomfort. Additionally, it is said to relax and tone the muscles that enhance better flexibility and mobility. There improved healing as a whole, and the cells and muscles are repaired bringing needed relief. Even if you have been suffering from back pain for a long time, remedial massage can be an option for treatment.
