All you need a basin or a tub, some massage oil and a towel. Here’s how you do it.
Soak her feet in a tub of warm water for 10 to 15 minutes.
You could also add some aromatherapy oil to the water as it will add to the relaxation. Soaking the feet in water will soften the skin as also clean it of all dirt. Once this is done wipe the feet dry with a warm towel and let her lie down on her back and relax.
- Massage one foot at a time. Rub the oil or lotion over the entire foot to just above the ankle. Place one hand under the heel and cup it and the other hand around the ankle. Gently stretch the foot up and down and move it in circles. Do this for one foot at a time.
- Next begin squeezing the foot with both hands starting from the toes and working your way down the foot to just above the ankles. One hand should grip the inner part of the foot while the other hand grips the outer part. Repeat the squeezing in the opposite direction. Now start twisting the foot in opposite directions using the same grip as before. Again work your way from the toes to the ankles and vice versa. Apply more pressure when moving from the toes to the ankles. Use your fingers to stroke the top of the foot while your thumbs stroke the bottom of the foot. Work your way from the toes to the ankles and vice versa.
- Now focus on the toes. Grip each toe at the base where it joins the foot and massage them using a circular motion. Repeat this for each toe. Then start massaging each toe, gripping them with the thumb, index and middle finger. First massage in a circular motion and then lengthwise along each toe. Repeat for all five toes. Run your fingers through all the toes and gently massage them back and forth.
- Lastly focus on the bottom of the foot. Grip the foot with the thumbs on the soles and make circular motions with your thumbs, gradually working your way from the toes to the heels. You can also use your knuckles to knead the sole of the foot.
- Finish the massage by repeating the first step. Wash her feet with warm water and dry them. The complete massage for both feet should take approximately 45 minutes.
Make sure that the massage is done slowly with just the right amount of force. It is important to take necessary precautions so as to avoid any injuries.
