Blood pressure is the force that is exerted by the blood on the walls of the blood vessels as the blood passes through the body. The pressure is a result of the pumping action of the heart and some muscles in the body. There are two values that are given when a blood test is performed. These are the systolic and diastolic.

Systolic is when the pumping takes place and diastolic is in between pumping. Typically the test is performed at the upper arm. The figures are given in the format of systolic/diastolic.

Normal values for systolic pressure are between 90 and 120 and for diastolic between 60 and 80. An example of blood pressure value is 120/80.

Hypertension

Hypertension is characterized by a high blood pressure. Readings between 120 and 160 (systolic) or 80 and 100 (diastolic) are regarded as symptoms of hypertension. Patients with figures above this should visit a doctor immediately.

In cases of mild hypertension you can try lowering blood pressure naturally. You should take steps to improve your lifestyle. Stress is one of the major causes of high blood pressure. Other vices such as smoking and drinking should also be cut out. You can exercise lightly every day and cut some of your excess weight. Exercising will improve your body's efficiency and make you fitter. Changing your diet will also benefit you. You should reduce your salt intake, cut out fatty foods, and try to eat some fruits and vegetables daily. These steps will also help in lowering diastolic pressure naturally and lowering systolic pressure naturally.

Heart Rate and Cholesterol

Cholesterol and a high heart rate can also be tackled by making changes to your lifestyle. A good diet will work towards lowering cholesterol naturally. You should avoid fatty foods and focus on fruits and vegetables. Foods like fish are high in omega acids which are beneficial to high cholesterol patients. However, when it comes to lowering heart rate naturally, food alone will not improve the situation drastically. If your heart is weak, it will need to pump more regularly to maintain blood flow. By regularly exercising, you can increase your stamina, improve the fitness of your heart and lungs and make your body more efficient. You will also breath more steadily when you are physically fit.

Natural Remedies

You can try natural remedies for lowering blood pressure. These include garlic and fish oils. Garlic has shown a potential to reduce blood pressure. However, it is important to consult your doctor before taking garlic supplements.
