Premature Gray Hair – Causes And Natural Treatment For Gray Hair

Scientists are yet to ascertain the exact causes of graying of the human hair. A common view accepted by medical experts worldwide is due to abnormal protein synthesis as one of the causes for grey hair. When the color pigmentation or melanin ceases to be produced and small air spaces are formed in the follicles of the hair, it leads to the whitening of hair. The base of every hair follicle comprises of cells that are responsible for producing the basic hair color, when we are young. As we grow older, many of these pigment cells cease to exist, leading to a loss of color in the hair. When this happens, an individual's hair appears to slowly turn grey. Whilst graying is associated with ageing, this is not always the case.

Premature graying can also be inherited and so you are likely to grey much earlier than supposed to, if your father experienced his hair graying early. There is a possibility that graying could be caused by stress related factors such as tension, depression, lack of nutrition etc., which could hamper the process of melanin production. Acute ailments are also known to be responsible in the reduction of melanin production.

Wild gooseberries are believed to be an effective weapon against graying hair. Applying a paste made from fresh or dried goosebeerry paste on the affected area may help to a certain extent in the reversal of the premature graying. Another helpful remedy would be to use a blend of coconut oil and lemon as a massage or rub on the affected area. In certain folk medicines, to over come graying hair, people boil curry leaves in coconut oil to produce a hair tonic that is believed to be effective in revitalizing hair coloration and reviving hair growth. Amazingly, butter that is produced from cow’s milk is also known to have qualities that are effective in preventing hair from turning grey prematurely.

Your hair also needs proper nourishment and grooming to guard it against premature graying and to help with its growth, texture and luster. It is recommended to use a mild cleansing agent appropriate for your face and hair for this purpose. Mild products that have a moisturizing effect are usually not harsh on the skin. Avoid excessive use of conditioning agents as this leads to greasiness around hair follicles. Ensure that your face and hair is massaged daily using your fingertips as this also aids in increased circulation of blood in the area. It is highly recommended to eat foods rich in protein such as cereals, meat and sprouted whole grains as well iodine rich foods such as carrots, bananas and fish which prevents premature graying.
