Hydrogen Peroxide For Infected Ear & Wax Removal

By Patricia | August 19, 2009

The use of hydrogen peroxide is considered one of the most effective treatments for an ear infection. It doesn’t really cure an ear infection as it does not kill the bacteria or viruses causing the infection. But it does flush all the wax out of the ear and prevents affliction of flu and cold. Even though it may seem like we catch the flu or cold viruses through the nose, but it’s the ear canal through which these viruses and bacteria enter our body. Our ear canal contains ear wax, which traps dust, grime, and other such debris, and prevents them from causing an infection. This wax then naturally dries and flakes off. But then, sometimes when it fails to dry and fall off, it gets accumulated, causing hearing problems and other infections, especially if there is a mucus build up in the ear-nose-throat canal. It’s important that wax does not accumulate in our ears. This is where hydrogen peroxide helps. It can bring relief from earache and ward off infection, thus making things easier for someone suffering from an ear infection. Buy a 3 % hydrogen peroxide solution from a chemist. Lie down on the side of the infected ear, and instill the solution with a dropper. The solution will bubble after a while. When it has bubbled, drain it with the help of tissue paper. The solution may give you a stinging sensation. In that case, you can dilute one teaspoon of the solution with two tablespoons of water and instill it in the ear with the help of a dropper.

Breaking down the excessive wax in the ear with the help of hydrogen peroxide can bring relief within 24 hours. Use the hydrogen peroxide as soon as you feel the symptoms of flu or cold developing. This will keep the infection from reaching the middle ear or the ear canal. However, to kill the bacteria that are causing you the ear infection, you may need to resort to some other remedies. Putting garlic oil in the infected ear is one of the best remedies. Heat a couple of cloves of garlic in coconut oil until the cloves turn brownish. Set the oil aside to cool and instill in the infected ear. Lie down for about 10 minutes. You can also mix white vinegar and water in equal proportions or warm up the juice of onion, instill in the ears and lie down for 10 minutes. You will be able to experience its results quite soon.
