Diabetes is an ailment that calls for a change in your diet and lifestyle. You should not overload your system with starch and carbohydrates otherwise; your already stressed pancreas will feel pressurized to secrete more insulin. Green vegetables are a must have in your diet to control diabetes. Brussels sprouts and broccoli are some of the best foods for diabetics as they stabilize the sugar levels in your blood. They are also a good source of chromium, which naturally regulates insulin. Chinese cabbage, beetroot and cauliflower are also good sources of fiber that need to be a part of your diet to regulate diabetes. Other best foods for diabetics include celery, spinach, lettuce, and cucumber. These are most effective when you consume them either as raw salad or stir fried. Brown rice is better than white rice to ward off starch. Beans and lentils in your diet prevent the sugar levels in your blood from rising quickly. Avocadoes, mushrooms, onions and garlic should be included in your diet. Whole grains like wheat should provide the calories from your diet. You need to remember that part of your food needs to be consumed in raw or steamed form as well.
Foods to avoid with diabetes include those with high glycemic index as they increase sugar into your blood stream. Sugar, fried foods, salad dressings, cheese and mayonnaise also need to be avoided. Refined flours should not be a part of your diet. Fruits like mango and dates as well as starchy vegetables like potatoes and beans should be had in moderation. Consult a dietician to chalk out a diabetes diet plan suited to you.
