What is flow yoga
Flow Yoga is also known as
Vinyasa and it refers to a type of yoga that follows a series of
asanas (poses) that are put together in order to form a smooth “flow” or pattern. Every Pose that is held by the body is connected by rhythmic breathing and this can help create energy and strength in the body. Flow Yoga is very popular across the globe, especially in the Western region. In fact, in the recent times it has been observed that that several rehab facilities, trauma treatment centers and eating disorder residential programs offer Flow Yoga as a part of their treatment program. Flow Yoga can be performed effectively, when proper
breathing techniques are incorporated. Deep
breathing exercises can help you relax. Other benefits associated with
Flow yoga are stress reduction, an increase in endurance, higher self esteem, relaxation, improved flexibility, better coordination, reduction of injuries & illnesses, an increase in strength, improved blood circulation, healthier organs, lower anxiety, reduced physical pain, better sleep quality and weight loss. Flow yoga is also known to have helped in the treatment of alcohol and drug abuse. Therefore, it is safe to say that this form of Yoga can bring about several positive changes in a person’s health.
Flow Yoga can be challenging, but it is fun to perform. Given below is an example of Flow Yoga, which shows the transition between the different
Yoga positions:
• Start with the Tadasana (Mountain Pose), which is the basic standing pose, where you need to stand as straight, erect and firm as a mountain (the heals and big toes should touch each other), without moving.
• Inhale and join your hands together in front of you.
• Exhale till all the air, except a little, leaves your lungs. After the transition roll your wrists for a good wrist stretch.
• Inhale deeply and stretch your arms high up, tilting your pelvis forward a bit.
• While exhaling, perform a forward bend, entering a mild boundary while you do so.
• Inhale and step your left or the right foot back.
• Exhale and move into the Downward Dog Pose
• Inhale and move into the Plank Pose
• Exhale and move into the Eight Limb Pose
• Inhale up and move into the upward Cobra Pose
• Exhale and move back into the Downward Dog Pose
• Inhale and step your left leg forward
• Exhale and straighten your left leg into the Half Moon Pose
• Inhale and enter the Warrior 3 Pose
• Exhale and move into the Tree Pose
• Inhale and move into the Warrior 3 Pose once again
• Finally, exhale and stand straight, into the Mountain Pose
