What is yin yoga

Yin yoga is not as popular as other forms of yoga. It is performed to stretch the connective tissues of the body. The important connective tissues such as the hips, thighs and the lower spinal area are exercised and stretched in yin yoga. Yin yoga does not help in stretching the muscles but they do stretch and exercise the bones and joints of the body. This type of meditation is believed to be helpful to a number of people experiencing connective tissue ailments. Yin yoga got its name due to its compatibility of the yin attribute of the Taoist concept. Yin asanas are supposed to be practiced for a couple of minutes as compared to other forms of yoga. This type of meditation helps in cultivating a lot of skills such as concentration, patience, focus and so on.
In a normal person, the body gets its flexibility due to the resistance and connective of the tissues. In yin yoga all these connective tissues are targeted. They include the tendons, the ligaments, the joints and other connective tissues. Yin yoga helps in lengthening the tissues and also increasing the range of motion. It helps in the base line flexibility of the body. It also creates a therapeutic stress on the joints, which is good for your body. Apart from that, it also helps in stimulating the hyaluronic acid levels in the body, this acid helps in lubricating the joints.
Yin yoga is also believed to stimulate the movement of life force in the body. It is considered helpful in improving the internal organs of the body. It relives the mind of stress and helps in releasing tension. Yin yoga trains the mind to remain calm even in stressful and unwanted situations. It benefits your spine greatly and it also reverses the ageing process. Yin yoga enhances the entire meditation experience for an individual.
This style of yoga can be considered to be very passive and boring by a lot of people. It is a little challenging due to the long duration of the poses. In western culture the yang yoga is more popular due to this particular reason. The tissues of our body respond differently to both the types of yoga and hence it is necessary to experience both, to understand the nature of their benefits. Once you start practicing yin yoga regularly you will be able to understand the comfort it provides to your body. It not only helps you remain healthy on the inside but also makes you physically fit.
