Yoga for voice.Voice techniques in yoga focus on the throat and breathing. Asanas or poses in yoga can unlock the throat chakra and Pranayama (Breathing Techniques) along with meditation act as healing forces for overworked vocal chords. It is interesting to note that the fifth chakra in yoga is located in the throat and focuses on communication. The throat chakra governs the thyroid and parathyroid, the jaw, neck, tongue, lips, mouth, throat and chest region. To stimulate and improve the function of these organs or glands, yoga emphasizes the benefits of Ujjayi or Ujjhayani Pranayama (Ocean Breath). While most breath techniques such as Anuloma-Viloma (Alternate Nostril Breathing), Kapalbhatti (Cleansing Breath), Sitkari (Hissing Breath), and Sheetali (Cooling Breath) maybe performed during the meditative period or on their own, yoga discipline dictates practicing the Ocean Breath technique along with specific yoga poses. Ocean Breath provides more power to the yoga pose and better concentration and focus to the individual practicing Yoga.
Ujjhayani Pranayam (Ocean Breath Technique): For beginners, Ocean Breath technique may be practiced by sitting cross-legged on the ground with your eyes closes. Concentrate on the rhythm of your inhaling and exhaling. As you get comfortable with your natural breathing, focus on your exhale and stretch it while constricting your throat. As the air passes out, you will notice a vibrating or rumbling quality to the breath. This is how the technique gets the name Ocean Breath. Apply the same pressure or constriction on inhaling. You can start practicing by using your mouth to inhale and exhale while constricting the throat. The ‘ocean-sound’ will seem even louder when you use the same technique to inhale and exhale through your nose. Once you have mastered the Ocean Breath technique, you may use it to direct the energy to parts of the body that need that extra power during yoga poses. Be mindful of the synchronized breathing patterns and yoga movements.
Yoga for throat disorders. Matsyasana (Fish Pose), Bhujangasana (Bow Pose), Ushtrasana (Camel Pose) Ardh Chandrasana (Crescent or Half Moon Pose) and Simhasana (Lion Pose) are yoga poses that can treat throat infections. Yoga poses for throat infections work to purify the blood, cleanse toxins and phlegm from the body, and build your immunity against common cold, cough and throat diseases. Yoga for speech disorders and voice paralysis may also prove beneficial for individuals who suffer from speech impediments. Voice or vocal chord paralysis may occur due to a severe viral infection, certain cancers of the throat and larynx, or damage during surgery. Yoga poses harness mind and body connections and may help untangle locked energy, relieve stressed nerves and muscles and improve both nerve and muscle function.
Yoga for face. The power of yoga ranges from healing body and mind to cosmetic health and beauty. Yoga can work as an alternative for face-lifting surgeries minus the side effects. Yoga asanas or poses for a glowing face can provide you with clear, radiant skin and a youthful appearance. Many of the poses focusing on facial features can act as yoga for a face lift, providing similar results—healthy skin and toned facial muscles. Here are some Yoga poses targeting specific areas such as yoga for face and neck, acne problems in adults and adolescents, erasing wrinkles and excess face fat, and providing glowing skin.
Yoga for face glow: Simhasana (Lion Pose) provides a complete facial workout. This yoga pose for a glowing face requires you to kneel on the ground with your fingers outstretched and resting on your knees for balance. Contort your face by opening your eyes wide, baring your teeth, and extending your tongue out and downwards to the chin. This lion-like grimace may be held for a few moments before relaxing the facial muscles. You may observe yoga for a face glow videos online to understand this pose better. Watching online versions or DVD’s of yoga for the face and exercise videos will enable you to follow every pose and rhythmic breathing technique that accompanies the pose closely.

The various bending forward or backward and inverted poses in yoga such as Trikonasana (Triangle Pose), Padahastasana (Standing Forward Bend) and Ardha Chakrasana (Half Circle Pose) stimulate blood flow and oxygen for cell regeneration. At the same time, yoga for face acne focuses on cleansing the body of toxins that cause unhealthy skin and breakouts. Pavanmuktasana (Wind Relieving Pose) may help the body rid itself of toxic gases and improve digestion. This is very important for a healthy skin.
Yoga for face fat:Some individuals may suffer from face fat or a double chin, which mars their appearance. Yoga for face fat focuses on providing a complete yoga workout for face muscles. Adho Mukhasavanasana (Downward Facing Dog), Savasana (Corpse Pose), Vajrasana (Extended Puppy Pose) along with Bhastrika Pranayam (Bellow Breath) may help reduce face fat. You may also practice these poses as yoga for face wrinkles. The Lion Pose is effective in eliminating fine lines, crow’s feet, and face wrinkles.
You may use yoga for your face and beauty as a natural remedy. With no side effects, a soothing action and exercises that you may practice anywhere, yoga may be your answer to a natural facelift. Yoga for cosmetic purposes should not be restricted to women only. Yoga for face and beauty purposes maybe beneficial for men as well. Facial workouts provide flexibility and strength to your facial muscles. Taut jowls, streamlined chin, and wrinkle free face make men attractive as well. While most yoga for face exercises are simple to follow, make sure that you practice your workout under a trained professional. Beginners may also use visual tools such as online videos on yoga or DVDs for a range of yoga exercises. Increasingly, you can look up yoga for face and arms, full body workouts, and breathing and meditation tips on Youtube as well. However, make sure that you always follow a qualified or certified professional online. With a moderate intensity workout such as yoga, people of all ages and workout levels can benefit from the various poses and breathing techniques.

Yoga for Voice improvement
Although voice is a gift of God, you can train it to improve and make it sound beautiful. Try the following asana for improving your voice –
- Simhagarjan asana - Sit on a yoga mat in vajrasana but with your knees apart in such a way that they are parallel to your shoulders. Place palms on the floor in the space between two knees, fingers pointing towards the body and the base of the palm in the opposite direction. Now lean a little forward and gently tilt the head backwards. Inhale slowly gazing at the center of your eyebrow. Open your mouth and extend the tongue out lie a dog. While exhaling produce a sound similar to a roar of a lion like “aach” with mouth wide open. Relax, breathe in and close the mouth. Repeat this 10-12 times, this asana will help to improve your voice. A little modification in the sitting position can also be done while performing this asana. Bend your legs at the knees and place your feet between the crotch areas, instead of sitting in vajrasana. Sit in such a way that your body weight is mainly on your toes and at the same time you can take support of your heels. Then in similar manner make a roaring sound of that if a lion.
- Chanting OM - daily reciting the mantra OM for at least 10 minutes without any breaks will help. Do with little variations and modulation in the voice, this will not only help to improve the base of your voice but will also help increasing your voicing stamina.
- Ujjhayani pranayama – this is the most effective asana for voice improvement, in this full throat is contracted inside and a reverse sound is produced (a sound produced when you are inhaling in through nose with closed lips and contracted throat). After you breathe in completely, relax your throat muscles and exhale through left nostril by holding the right one with thumb.
