Yoga For Balance In Life

(January 22, 2009)

I wake up in the morning and do Yoga from 4

No, this is not recommended at all. Yoga is all about balance, it is not just a form of exercise but it is a way of life that come from years of studying the human body and the effects of natural substances and environment on it. Yoga is practiced to bring back the harmony in your mind and body and in turn this helps you to bring balance in your life. So keep this simple thing in mind and do not stress yourself unnecessarily. There is no compulsion for anyone to wake up at 4 A.M. in the morning to practice yoga, why do you do that?

You can wake up at 5 A.M. instead, practice yoga for an hour until 6 A.M. and then do your daily activities. This will help you to complete your sleep and you will be more relaxed and refreshed. Peaceful sleep is very important for our body just as much as food and water is as it is during this time that the body repairs itself and gets us ready for the next day. If we do not get enough and proper sleep then this function is disturbed and our body feels the strain. If this happens on a regular basis no amount of yoga or any other exercise will keep you fit as you yourself are doing something else to prevent it.

Try and go to bed early, get enough sleep and then start your yoga practice. Since you haven’t slept properly for quite some time now and have been rushing about all your work, you must be really exhausted. You have not given your body any time to relax at all. First and foremost stop being so hard on yourself and get some rest. Do not practice yoga for a day just sleep, may be on your day off from work. Sleep as much as you want, your body will tell you once it has had enough. Do not worry about other things just sleep peacefully. Then after you wake up do your daily chores and if you feel like meditate for some time. Do not force yourself to meditate for long. Do not practice yoga on that day just meditate. Then next day wake up at 5 AM or a time that is comfortable for you and practice yoga. You do not have to do all the asanas daily. You can alternate by practicing yoga one day and meditating on the next day. And after meditation you can also practice pranayama or the breathing exercises and Suryanamaskar or the Sun Salutation. This simple routine will help you balance your yoga practice, keep you feeling refreshed and alert and will also allow you to get enough sleep daily.
