Itchy Thigh Causes & Treatment

The itchiness may be a result of as jock itch, medically called tinea cruris, which is a fungal skin infection caused by Trichophyton rubrum fungus. This fungus usually thrives in warm, dark, and damp parts of the body, like inner thighs, groin area, the buttocks, and genitals. The infection is not really dangerous or harmful, but it gets very discomforting for the sufferer because of the severe itchiness. You should be careful not to scratch the area because it may even get infected. The infection worsens if you are overweight or sweat too much. There’s also a possibility that the problem is being caused by chaffing, a condition wherein there is severe friction between the skin and clothes or surrounding skin. This causes the skin to turn red and painful because of the abrasion. Chaffing also aggravates the problem of jock itch. In both these cases, you need to ensure that the affected part is always clean and dry.

If suffering from jock itch, the person should avoid wearing tight or wet clothes and underclothing. Bacteria breed better in dampness, so wear cotton clothes and underclothing so that the sweat gets absorbed. Also, do not share your towel or clothes with other people. This infection is contagious. Always wear washed and clean clothing and wash them in hot water before reuse. Or, if you can manage, change at least your underclothing a couple of times everyday. You must also avoid carbohydrates, processed foods, and sugar, as these have adverse effects on infections. You must also take lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, especially green leafy veggies.

Wash the affected areas with antibacterial soap. Dry your groin area with a clean dry towel or you can also use a hairdryer on low setting. After drying the area, apply apple cider vinegar or tea tree oil. Do this for at least five days to get relief. Garlic also has antifungal properties. Include it in your diet or make a paste of garlic and honey and spread it on the affected parts. You can apply cornstarch on the affected regions twice every day to see the difference in about 12 days. Add liberal amounts of salt in a tub of water and soak in it for about 15 minutes. This will bring your relief in a couple of days. Please note that these remedies are for mild jock itch. If they don’t help and the itch gets severe, you must see a specialist immediately.
