What does bible say about yoga?

The practice of Yoga has become very popular all across the globe, including the western countries like the United States of America. Yoga has been strongly recommended by several health and beauty experts. Yoga has been included as an integral part of many health, beauty and rehab programs. Even prenatal classes now recommend the practice of Yoga, for reducing stress and improving the health of the mother as well as the unborn baby. The practices that are usually followed are the deep breathing techniques, meditation, stretching exercises and body postures which have been used for centuries to improve one’s physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and even social wellbeing. However, many people in the west are quite interested in knowing about the roots or the origins of Yoga. The question that is foremost in their minds is “What does the Bible say about Yoga?” Some of these people have joined Yoga and are practicing it on a regular basis. They may also notice the health benefits associated with it. However, they may not want to practice something that goes against their religious beliefs. They fear that they may be undermining their own religious faith by practicing Yoga. The truth is that the bible does not mention anything about the practice of Yoga.
Yoga is not a religion on its own although it is included in many eastern religious practices like Hinduism, Jainism and Buddhism. Yoga is a system that teaches a person to work in such a way, so as to become united with God. However, the Bible does not recognize Yoga as a practice through which man can become one with God. In fact, the Bible states that God created Adam using dust and then breathed life, into his nostrils, creating a separate being. According to the Bible, man can have a relationship with God, however, man can never work his way up to God, because God is far above Man. Because of the Original Sin committed by Adam & Eve, man is eternally flawed, as he is born in sin. Therefore, as only God is without sin, the perfect sacrifice had to be made by Him. God made the sacrifice for the redemption of man, which is why man can get eternal life in God’s presence, upon death, when the earthly body is shed to be replaced by the eternal body. The Bible states that upon death, man is given the gift of Salvation, which is not something he had to work for.
